The Not-So-Great Eugene Green has won the prestigious Monkey King award for ‘Best Foreign Short Animation‘ at the 2010 China International Cartoon and Animation Festival (CICAF). The animation is written and directed by Michael Hill and produced by Melanie Brunt. CICAF is China’s largest animation festival and attracts approximately 900,000 visitors. The Screen Australia funded short animation The Not-So-Great Eugene Green (directed by Michael Hill, produced by Melanie Brunt) has been invited to screen at 2 prestigious festivals - the Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film. Eugene is screening in the World Animation section in March and April at Hong Kong and in the International Competition in May at Stuttgart. Writer/director Adrian Francis has been invited to participate in the 2010 Berlin Talent Campus. Adrian, the writer/director of the short documentary Lessons From The Night, is currently in development on his next documentary Ten Views of Tokyo. Lessons From The Night is screening at the 3rd San Joaquin International Film Festival in Stockton and Modesto, California.

Michael Hill’s Screen Australia funded animation The Not-So-Great Eugene Green has won a Golden Pencil Award at the 2D or Not 2D Animation Festival in Seattle USA. This is the 5th Award for the AFI Nominated film, which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in June 2009.

At the 12th ASSAG Awards our Sound Designer Markus Kellow and Sound Mixer Doron Kipen from Music & Effects won the Australian Screen Sound Award in the Short Animation Category, for their work on The Not-So-Great Eugene Green. This is Markus Kellow’s 2nd award for his work on The Not-So-Great Eugene Green. Earlier in the year he won Best Sound Design at the In The Bin Film Festival. Good things come in threes - In The Bin Short Film Festival

The short animation The Not-So-Great Eugene Green has scooped up 3 Awards at the In The Bin Short Film Festival in QLD, where it won Best Animation, Best Sound Design (Markus Kellow) and Best Production Values. Director Michael Hill and Producer Melanie Brunt are thrilled as this is the first award for the animation, which premiered in June 2009 at the Sydney Film Festival.

This marks the third win for Melanie Brunt at this festival; the short film Dugong which she produced won Best Film, Best Actor (Luke Elliot) and Best Actress (Sue Jones) in 2008; and her VCA film Rain, which she wrote, directed and edited won Best Film there in 2001.

The Not-So-Great Eugene Green has been nominated for a AFI Award for Best Animation, and will screen in Adelaide at the Shorts Film Festival in December.

ATOM Award Finalists

Both The Not-So-Great Eugene Green and Lessons From The Night are finalists in the 2009 TV Enhance ATOM Awards, held on 23rd October in Melbourne. The Not-So-Great Eugene Green is an 13 minute animation directed by Michael Hill. Lessons From The Night is a 9 minute documentary directed by Adrian Francis. “Bird” Receives 2 Awards

Melanie Brunt’s 5 minute short film Bird has just received a Silver Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival. Bird recently screened at the San Gio Video Festival in Italy in July, where it was awarded Best Social Short Film at the festival. Bird is distributed by Ouat Media and was recently sold to Moviola.
